It is easy to enjoy a fun and safe trip, but if mother nature is having a bad day, you need to be prepared. It is open every day except Christmas. Natchez Trace Cycling works with the National Park Service and Adventure Cycling Association to study and improve safety conditions on the parkway. Although the scenery changes with the seasons, the stories of the wildlife, American Indians, Kaintucks, white settlers, enslaved persons, and all who traveled the Old Trace have been told for hundreds of years. 2. A trip on the Natchez Trace Parkway is enjoyable anytime of the year. This All-American Road and National Scenic Byway takes you through history with Native American burial mounds, Civil Wars sites, and well worn boatman trails. Most of the Natchez Trace Parkway runs through natural areas that demand attention to all of the elements. The best way to keep up with weather conditions on the Parkway is to listen to a weather radio, or a local radio, or TV station. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: pause for some serene contemplation at St. Mary Basilica, contemplate the long history of Choctaw Hall, stroll the grounds of Natchez National Cemetery, and make a trip to Longwood. The Natchez Trace Parkway is is a 444 mile-long, scenic road that generally follows the path of the Old Natchez Trace from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. Make a side trip to Port Gibson to view the ruins of Windsor Plantation ruins, a series of 23, 45-foot tall plastered brick columns with ornate iron capitals, once a gorgeous plantation home. Northern terminus (milepost 442.1) The northern terminus for the Natchez Trace Parkway is in far West Nashville, just a stone’s throw from Loveless Cafe , where many bikers celebrate a victorious ride when they’re through pedaling sections of this cyclist-friendly byway. The goal is to make a visit to the park a safe and enjoyable experience for motorists, cyclists, hikers, and every other visitor.
