The manner in which we meet those challenges—the way we practice vigilance at the beginning of this semester—will play a central role in how we fare this year. Beyond unexpected academic hurdles, all Redbirds have faced their own set of struggles as a result of COVID-19. Another key aspect of the Redbird experience is campus life. This voluntary pledge for students, faculty, and staff emphasizes a shared commitment in helping to maintain a safe and healthy campus. New information becomes available almost daily and many uncertainties remain, making COVID-19 planning a daunting task. Quarantine, Isolation and Student Absence The goal, however, has remained constant: Provide actionable recommendations for the fall semester with time for consideration and implementation. They thrive through residential life and out-of-classroom experiences that create growth in both their professional and personal skills. Group Fitness classes for the remainder of the semester will be zoom-based. The University is finalizing plans for symptom checking but will expect students to record symptoms and take necessary precautions if they are symptomatic of COVID-19, including not attending class, etc. Love it or loathe it? Student Counseling Services will provide both individual and group telemental health services and will continue to provide emergency services 24 hours per day. Beginning this date, Fall 2020 instruction and final exams will utilize alternative delivery methods. The University will remain sensitive to the evolving pandemic, while considering ways to communicate and engage with external constituencies. It is recommended that you share your test results with Student Health Services by uploading them to the secure health portal. As a reminder, if you are required to live on campus, you received an email on July 2 from University Housing Services providing you with an opportunity to cancel your housing and meal plan contract for the 2020-21 academic year with no penalty. The recommendations outlined in this progress report assume that our region will be in Phase 4 prior to the start of the fall semester. Please check your Illinois State University email frequently so that you are aware of the latest information regarding COVID-19 on the Illinois State campus and in Bloomington-Normal. Due to recent public health circumstances, some or all Illinois State University undergraduate and graduate instruction for all or part of the 2020-2021 academic year may be delivered by traditional in person instruction, online instruction, and/or in a hybrid format (including both in-person and online components). The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise, and we are closely monitoring information provided by the Governor and the Illinois Department of Public Health. COVID-19 symptoms currently include but are not limited to: respiratory illness, a fever of 100.4ºF or higher, or new or worsening symptoms including but not limited to: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat.
